Find the tangent value

# What is Tangent?

Tangent is one of the fundamental trigonometry functions. The word tangent is derived from the Latin word "tangere" which means "to touch". Tangent is commonly referred to as "tan".

In trigonometry (for acute angles only), the tangent of a right-angled triangle is defined as "the ratio of the length of the opposite side to the length of adjacent side". The tangent function is negative whenever either sine or cosine is negative.

# Tangent formula

The tangent formula is used to determine the angle of a right angled triangle. The Tangent function allows you to determine the length of a side of a triangle.

tanθ = a / b

tanθ = sinθ / cosθ
